The two castles of Liebenstein and Sterrenberg
are known as the Warring Brothers over Kamp-Bornhofen, maybe because of their front
battlements, faced at each other. Before 1110 Sterrenberg Castle was an imperial castle,
in 1195 it became an imperial toll station, before it fell in state of decay in 1568 and
was rebuilt between 1968 and 1978. Liebenstein Castle is perched on a narrow ridge over
Sterrenberg and shows the remains of the keep (13C) and a restaurant in the former
residential tower (14C). |
