Sooneck Castle is located at the tip of the
Soon Forest and is said to be one of the most beautiful and chivalrous of all rhine
castles. It was built in the 11th century by the bailiffs of Kornelimünster
Abbey and therefor was destroyed together with Reichenstein Castle and for the same
reasons in 1253 and 1282. The castle was rebuilt around 1350 but destroyed again in 1689
until the ruin was restored as a hunting lodge from1834. Special attractions are the
exposed landscapes, weapons, the fine Empire and Biedermeier furniture and the castle pub. |
