| Rheinfels Castle | |
| In 1245 the expansive complex of Rheinfels Castle was built over St. Goar on the Rhine. In 1255/56 the castle was besieged unsuccessfully, served as site of many cultural activities, as fortress and royal residence. After an unsuccessful attack in1692/93 Rheinfels was finally blown up by the French in 1797. One third of the castle has survived and now houses a museum, a restaurant, and a hotel. | |
