Hotel-Heinz Reichenstein Castle, picturesque castle over Trechtingshausen and the Rhine
Reichenstein Castle was ropably built in the 11th century to protect Kornlimünster Abbey (Aachen), whose bailiffs became notorious robbers in the 13th century, what resultet in the destruction of the castle in 1254 by the Rhenish League. In 1882 Rudolf from Habsburg razed the castle before it was rebuilt by the electors of Mainz but fell into disrepair in 16th century. In 1834 the gatehouse was turned into a residence and in 1899 sumptuously in the Neo-Gothic style.The whole interior is a memorial to the historicist style and the castle also houses a private museum with many works of art and a restaurant.
