Marksburg Castle over Braubach is probably one
of Germany´s most beautiful castles. It was built around 1100 and the only intact hilltop
castle on the Central Rhine. It provides fantastic furnishings and all the standard
features of a medieval stronghold, including garden, wine cellars, kitchens, ladies´
bowers, knight´s hall, chapel, armoury and a collection of instruments of punishment and
torture.The castle is a popular meeting-place, because it houses a restaurant, where
"Knight´s banquets" are served. Apart from that you can buy original medieval
documents in the castle shop. |
