| Ehrenfels Castle, ruin of a picturesque rhine castle over Rüdesheim | |
| Ehrenfels Castle near Rüdesheim was built around 1211 for the archbishop of Mainz. In 1356 it was made the court garrison of the see and was also used as a refuge in times of rebellion for the archbishops who were also electors. The castle was finally destroyed in 1689 by the French and remained a picturesque ruin with a magnificent view from the twin towers. | |
