Hotel-Heinz Ehrenfels Castle, ruin of a picturesque rhine castle over Rüdesheim
Ehrenfels Castle near Rüdesheim was built around 1211 for the archbishop of Mainz. In 1356 it was made the court garrison of the see and was also used as a refuge in times of rebellion for the archbishops who were also electors. The castle was finally destroyed in 1689 by the French and remained a picturesque ruin with a magnificent view from the twin towers.
